Wellness Overview

Seems like such a simple proverb that would make a huge difference if we applied it to our lives. But in today’s world, it seems harder and harder to follow such simple principles. And yet it is more important than ever. The more complicated our world is becoming, the more we have to return to our roots and implement some simple yet incredibly useful advice.

But what are the most important changes to work on? What’s actually been proven to work? And once we know what really works, how do we implement these changes given our stressful lives and jobs that often require us to sit all day? These are the questions that I am obsessed with. How do we improve our lives by taking small steps and building up our habits and routines to support our health?

As a former psychology major at Rutgers University and a family physician, I am fascinated by behavioral change. I find that as humans, we often know what we should do for our health but often have trouble doing it. For example, we know that five behaviors have been proven to extend our lives - not smoking, getting good sleep, exercising, keeping our weight down, and keeping alcohol consumption at a moderate level. Yet less than 5% of people are able to say they meet all five criteria.

We also know that in certain ‘Blue Zones’ in the world, life expectancy is much longer than in other parts of the world. People living in these areas have certain common lifestyle elements which we should all adopt. Part of this website is dedicated to discussing these elements in detail. But knowledge is just entertainment if it isn’t applied, so this website also focuses on how to apply this knowledge.

In order to help people make the changes they want to make (including myself), I’ve scoured hundreds of studies and dozens of books to learn about what works in the real world and is proven through scientific studies. Much of this website is devoted to simple techniques that when applied consistently, lead to big results. I’ll show you the studies regarding preventative health and wellness and discuss how to actually make long-term lifestyle changes.
