How to use nuts to lose weight
Sunday, April 8th, 2007As many of you may have already read, nuts can actually help you to lose weight. But not if you overindulge. So here are some tips on how to keep your intake in check.
Avoid ‘honey roasted’ and salted nuts. Plain nuts are have the most nutritional value.
Limit your quantity to one ounce. Here’s a guide to how many of each type of nut are in one serving (roughly a small handful):
- Almonds: 24
- Brazil nuts: 8
- Cashews: 16 medium sized
- Hazelnuts: 18
- Macadamias: 10
- Peanuts: 30
- Pecans: 15 halves
- Pine Nuts: 150
- Pistachios: 46
- Walnuts: 14 halves
I can already hear some of the questions. Do I have to count the nuts? Yes, if you want to lose weight. And here’s how to make it simple. Take an appetizer plate and load up one serving’s worth of nuts. Then enjoy them one at a time rather than a fistful at a time.
Whatever you do, don’t keep taking “a few” at a time from a bowl of nuts. You will quickly end up taking in 600 and more calories without even blinking. If you can abstain from or at least minimize the alcohol, you have a fighting chance at keeping your nut consumption to a minimum.
Good luck!
